What is a dental implant?
A dental implant is a titanium screw that is placed into your jawbone in place of missing teeth. The titanium integrates with the jawbone and then a restoration can be placed on top.
Dental Implant retained dentures – Lower Jaw
Why would I want a denture that is implant retained?
One of the problems that some denture wearers can experience (particularly with lower dentures), is that there is a lack of physical retention. Put simply, there is nothing left for the denture to hold on to! This can mean eating in particular is a real issue. An implant retained denture will mean that the denture is held firmly in place by (usually) 2 implants.
Will it help with eating then?
Oh yes. We know that for some the idea of steak or crusty bread is a dim and distant memory but an implant retained denture can give you this important area of your life back.
