The most common reason for denture breakages is dropping them, usually when putting them in or taking them out
We always recommend standing over a sink filled with water when inserting or removing your dentures – if you drop them the water will help to soften the impact, avoiding damage.
Another reason that dentures can require a repair is when they no longer fit properly. Naturally, the gums can shrink, which can cause dentures to become loose. A poor fit can result in wear that can lead to fractures. We advise attending regular dental check-ups so that your dental team can assess the fit of your dentures and the health of your gums.
Never try to fix your dentures yourself with superglue – this can cause more damage and make it difficult for us to carry out the repair. Instead, if your dentures are damaged, contact us as soon as possible so that we can help!
